This is the second album of the group entitled “Miracula”. The first part of the album consists of a flute presentation that reminds the ones made in the Medieval Period or Renaissance. In the middle part, Liduino Pitombeira, the founder of the group, plays his cembalo solo “Suíte Russana”. The CD is closed with a superb performance of “Asa Branca”, a typical Brazil’s northeastern song.
This is the first album of the band consisted of 5 saxophonists, 4 trompetists, 4 trombonists besides piano, guitar, bass and drum players. The traditional formation of these greatest brazilian jazz musicians, multiply the fascinating arrangement.
The three brothers Kiko (piano and keyboards), Jorge (sax) and Alberto (bass) form the experimental jazz-fusion group ContinenTrio.
Originally from Rio de Janeiro, their roots come from a family of musicians. Their parents, Mauro Continentino and Marisa Gandelman, both instrumentalists, introduced their children to music at an early age, in an environment where Jazz and Bossa-Nova were played live or on the stereo all day long.
The trio’s musical experience came mainly from their father, Mauro Continentino, who in the 80’s onwned a Jazz House – Pianíssimo Studio Bar – in Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais state). They make a fusion of jazz, funk, soul, rock and other rhythms such as afro-Brazilian ones – especially samba, with emphasis on improvisations and well elaborated arrangements and compositions. Occasionally, their father Mauro Continentino joins the band. André Queiroz and Cacá Cólon take turns in playing drums for the trio.
The band debuted in 2000 in Minas Gerais and at the same year, participated in a local jazz festival and performed in several bars and nightclubs in Belo Horizonte, as well as in Rio de Janeiro. Together they have played in numerous jazz festivals and recorded two specials for the Minas television network in Brazil. In 2003 they released an album self-entitled Continentrio, with their own original compositions and arrangements.
The repertoire of Continentrio is made of compositions and arrangements of the three brothers. They also work individually in instrumental gigs or accompanying others artists, such as Milton Nascimento (Kiko), Skank (Jorge) and Caetano Veloso (Alberto).
